A number of workers with the government of Alberta were not paid on time Friday due to a technical issue.
Some received an email early Friday morning acknowledging the glitch and promising they would have their wages deposited over the course of the day.
“The financial institution used to distribute pay experienced a technical issue which delayed the processing of the GoA banking file,” the email reads.
“However, as of 8 a.m., they have processed the file to recipient banking institutions who are now processing pay to individuals.”
A further update for employees is planned for later Wednesday.
A government employee affected by the error told Postmedia he wasn’t paid overnight Thursday into Friday as usual, but did receive his pay around 9:30 a.m. Friday.
“This issue has been rectified, and deposits are currently in progress,” reads a statement from the government’s department of communications, technology and innovation.
It’s not immediately clear how many employees were affected.
The Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) said it learned of the issue early Friday via workers and is investigating.
“AUPE is in contact with the employer and we are working to ensure every member is paid.”
