Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham told reporters the man "lunged at police with what we believe is a knife, which resulted in an officer discharging three shots".

Officers arrived at the Days Road property after 2.15pm this afternoon after triple zero calls reported the 29-year-old was attempting to stab his father.

"Upon their arrival they noticed that a man had actually been stabbed in the left hand, it was quite a deep laceration and also suffered an injury to his left shoulder," Massingham said.

The man in his 50s is currently being treated at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital and he is in a stable condition.

Evidence markers remain dotted across the driveway as detectives focused on the area underneath the home where the shooting occurred.

Out on the street, the family who lives there was grieving, including the man's mother.

"They shot him. They shot my son," the woman said.

Those who live nearby revealed their shock following the incident.

"We heard four shots evenly spaced apart, so we've gone outside just to have a look to see if we needed to call triple zero and there's already police at the address two houses down," neighbour Grant Brosnan said.

Those in a nearby barber shop ducked for cover, unaware where the shots were coming from.

"Of course it's scary, yeah very scary," one customer said.

Initial investigations indicate no Taser was deployed during the interaction.

Police said they also seized a pitchfork from the backyard of the home.

9News understands the officers involved will be subject to questions from the Ethical Standards Command.

Body-worn-camera footage will be reviewed as a part of the investigation, which will be overseen by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
