An 87-year-old man has died after a suspected assault while going for a morning walk in Queensland's Noosa Heads this morning.
Police said the elderly Noosa local died shortly after emergency crews were called to the scene on Hastings Street about 6am.
Sunshine Coast Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said the man was found with severe facial injuries and lying face up on a boardwalk path.

The facial injuries are consistent with an assault, police say.
Bystanders called for help, however the man died at the scene.
"We believe he was out this morning having a walk when these tragic circumstances occurred," Toohey said.
A 27-year-old man is in custody and is assisting police with their enquiries. So far no charges have been laid.
The man was located by officers within 100 metres of the crime scene after circumstances brought him to the attention of police, Toohey said.
The two are not believed to be known to each other.
A crime scene has been established and police have now launched a homicide investigation.
Toohey said police were not yet in a position to comment on whether a weapon may have been used in the alleged attack.
"Investigators are down at the scene, forensically examining everything down there. We'll have a better understanding of what's happened later on in the day," Toohey said.
