On Sunday, June 4, 2023, when IK Osakioduwa, Nigerian Idol’s host, mentioned that a contestant would be going home that night, Abraham was not on the list of housemates we thought would be evicted. Unfortunately, he was the first housemate to go home.
The night officially started as the rest of the nine contestants were to perform ‘top of the chart or Billboard’ songs. Quests started off the night with a twist to Tems’ Damages, and the judges were not impressed by her performance.
Savy Henry was the next contestant up, and like last week, he failed to deliver with his performance of Burna Boy’s It’s Plenty. In Simi’s words, his performance was underwhelming. Precious Mac tries to make the night exciting but ultimately fails to do so with her rendition of Mavins’ Overdose.
However, the trajectory and energy of the show changed when Chisom came to give a charged performance of Asake’s ‘Peace Be Unto You.’ The judges were dancing, the viewers were excited, and Chisom seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed himself on stage.
Goodness keeps the energy high as she raps to Ladipoe’s feelings while showing her vocal strength. Soon, the mood of the night deemed as Reigny was evicted during the second half of the show, making the contestants a top 8.
Constance immediately serenades the audience with her performance of Burna Boy’s Alone, and everyone immediately loved how serene and beautiful her voice was, great song choice this time.
Soon, Ose Daniel brought another Asake song to the stage, but this time he was the featured artiste. Ose performed Fireboy DML’s Bandana, and everyone, including Simi, was immediately reminded of how strong his vocals were, and this time, he seemed more comfortable on stage.
While everyone was singing Nigerian songs, Victory Gbakara took us overseas with his performance of Harry Styles’ ‘As It Was’. He connected with the audience, showcased his vocals, and had everyone swooning over his performance.
Although Victory was not a part of Netng’s poll, his name was mentioned as one of the best performers of the night, with Chisom taking the crown with over 51% and Ose Daniel coming closely behind with 22%.
