We are weeks into Nigerian Idol season eight, and the game is getting more intense, with some of our favourite contestants leaving the show before intended due to the competition’s intensity and overall performance.
From incredible performances like Chisom’s rendition of Asake’s ‘Peace Be Unto You; to Ose Daniel’s twist to Fela’s ‘Zombie,’ the show has given us a range of contestants. For the Father’s Day edition, here are the five best performances of the night.
Precious Mac – From This Moment On
Precious Mac has always been a performer. From her performance of Alicia Key’s ‘No One’ to this performance of Shania Twain’s ‘From This Moment On,’ the Idol has shown that she is a vocal powerhouse. Her vocal control, stage presence, and overall disposition scream superstar, and she makes sure to confirm our every thought with every stage performance.
In a poll administered by Netng, Precious Mac was crowned the best performer of the night amassing over 57% of the total votes.
Ose Daniel – Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You
When Ose Daniel had his first live performance, he seemed very nervous, but four weeks down the line, he has shown us that there are different sides to him that he would like to showcase, and every night we get to enjoy a range of performances thanks to his boldness to come out of his comfort zone.
On the Father’s Day edition, he performed George Brown’s ‘Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You,’ and everyone was raving about how outstanding his performance was, including his mother, who was moved to tears. The Netng audience crowned him the second performer of the night with 24% of the total votes.
Victory Gbakara – Redeemer
Victory Gbakara has enough confidence to power all the contestants of Nigerian Idol, and it shows in every performance. Whether he is singing secular songs or gospel, there is a soul that is always in his music that none of the other contestants have, and it seems to be his edge on the show right now.
His family chose Nicole C. Mullen’s ‘Redeemer’ for his performance of the night, and he indeed took us to church and gave us a convincing enough performance to indeed know that his Redeemer lives.
Savy Henry – Hero
Savy Henry might be an outstanding songwriter, but he is not the strongest contestant when it comes to vocals. However, on the last live show, he infused what he knew how to do best – songwriting and serenading – with Enrique Iglesias ‘Hero’, and it totally worked for him. The performance was unarguably his best Nigerian Idol performance, and we hope to see more of him.
Goodness – Mercy Said No
When Goodness auditioned for Nigerian Idol, you could tell she was not really confident in her voice, but weeks down the line, we have seen her loosen up and take up the challenge to sing rap songs while giving us outstanding Disney-esque performances. It was no different at this live show as she gave an emotional performance of Cece Winans’ ‘Mercy Said No.’
