These 2 mid-roster defenders have played well for Oilers, but their return is far from guaranteed

It’s odd how history sometimes repeats itself. 5 times in the last 10 years have the Edmonton Oilers ventured out on or near the open market to sign a mid-roster defenceman to a 4-year, 8-figure contract. By my definition, “mid-roster” covers the #s 3/4/5 defenders among the 7-man group which is standard for most NHL rosters. 3 different GMs were involved in these signings, but always the identical 4 years.
