Joseph Donald Skelly, 69, a resident of Beaumont was arrested and charged with causing indignity to a dead body, said officers
Another person is facing charges after continued investigation into the death of a 40-year-old Beaumont woman, RCMP said Thursday.
Treasa Lynn Oberly, a resident of Beaumont, last seen on July 14 in the Beaumont area, was reported missing on July 16. RCMP organized a ground search with the help of volunteers in local areas in south Beaumont beginning on July 22.
Oberly was located deceased on July 24 and Alberta Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
Kenneth Skelly, 43, a resident of Beaumont has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, with a court appearance scheduled for Aug. 3.
On Thursday, RCMP said in a news release, a second man is now facing charges in connection to Oberly’s death.
Joseph Donald Skelly, a resident of Beaumont was arrested and charged with causing indignity to a dead body, police said.
The 69-year-old has been taken before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody with his next court date set for Aug 3, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Leduc.
Officers said they are not looking for additional suspects in relation to this homicide.
Zina Hinkley of Beaumont has organized a GoFundMe in recent days, saying that her friend leaves behind a young son she is trying to help to reunite with Oberly’s family in Delaware.
“They do not have the funds to make the trip to Canada. The U.S. embassy has agreed to get them an emergency passport to come here, but that also costs money. They don’t know anyone here so funds for lodging are also needed, as well as their flights,” Hinkley said in the post.
“Her family is heartbroken. Please help unite her son with her family. Thank you all so much, any amount of money helps.”
The campaign by Friday morning had raised more than $7,500 of the $10,000 goal.
