Alberta RCMP seek suspect in rural home arson in Strathcona County

Mounties are asking for assistance from the public in locating a suspected arsonist after a rural home was set on fire in June.

Strathcona County RCMP were called to a house fire on June 28 at around 9:15 a.m., said a news release on Tuesday. Police said the lone occupant of the home was able to escape unharmed.

Investigators from the fire department assisted police in determining that the fire was intentionally set and launched a criminal investigation.

As a result of the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Robert Martin, 45, of Red Deer. Martin is facing charges of arson, disregard for human life and disobeying a court order.

Police believe Martin fled the scene with another unknown male suspect in a newer model white Ford F-150 and is believed to be in the Red Deer area or in the city of Kelowna, B.C.

Martin is described as heavy set, six feet tall and around 250 lbs. He has brown hair and eyes.

The unidentified man is described as more than six feet tall, caucasian with a slender build.
