A look at Monday Edmonton weather by Environment Canada.
It’s 12.4 C at the Edmonton Blatchford weather station, with 16 km/h winds from the west, northwest gusting to 29 km/h.
“Wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low concentrations,” reads the statement. “Check the Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) and monitor your symptoms. People respond differently to smoke. Mild irritation and discomfort are common, and usually disappear when the smoke clears. Drinking lots of water can help your body cope with the smoke.”
Currently, the AQHI for Edmonton remains at a 3 (low risk) but an asterisk notes that in areas where smoke is prevalent, the air quality decreases and becomes a 7 (high risk).
Combine the wildfire smoke with heavy wind gusts and potential thunderstorms and we got ourselves a dystopian forecast right out of Mad Max.
Forecasters are calling for thunderstorms to start later this afternoon around 2 p.m. but I can already hear my wind chimes working overtime in the backyard, so I guess this is just our day then.
Wind, rain and smoke. Not ideal. Take care of yourself.
