A father has confronted a group of machete-wielding men, who allegedly attempted to steal his car in Melbourne’s south-east at the weekend.

Police said the four men dressed in black approached the home on Cunningham Parade in Keysborough just after 7am on Saturday.

Family friend Anton Wick was at the home when the men were spotted near his Mercedes.

CCTV captured the moment Wick scared the group away before taking photos of their getaway car, a white Skoda hatchback.

Police said the offenders stopped and returned to the home to confront Wick with what is believed to be a machete, demanding his phone before fleeing in the hatchback.

“They wanted to destroy the evidence,” Wick said.

“It was really scary and really unbelievable. The wife was very traumatised, I think it’s still haunting in her mind.”

Police believe the Skoda used by the offenders was stolen during an aggravated burglary on Glenvill Court, Templestowe about 3am on Thursday.

Police arrested a 17-year-old Pakenham boy this afternoon who was assisting detectives with their enquiries.
