They were both treated by paramedics before being rushed to hospital.
The 20-year-old man is believed to be in a serious condition, police said.
The 33-year-old man is in a stable condition.
A crime scene has been established while police establish the circumstances of the shooting.
Witnesses on Marrickville Road said several gunshots were heard before emergency services descended on the street.
"When I heard the noise initially, I didn't think anything bad had happened because there were still mums with prams walking along," local Francesca said.
She also reported seeing a silver car speed away from the scene.

Officers are also investigating whether two car fires on Norwood Lane in Marrickville and Hercules Street in Dulwich Hill are linked to the shooting.
Video shows Raptor police – Sydney's organised crime-focused police squad – at the scene of the burnt-out car in Dulwich Hill.
The car fire in Dulwich Hill has residents, who say it is usually a quiet street, on edge.
"It's a big concern for locals when something like that comes home to roost in close proximity to where you live," resident Allan said.
NSW Police will be holding a media conference at 4pm to provide more details about the daylight shooting.
More to come.
