Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) star Ike Onyeama has claimed that his relationship with Mercy Eke denied him the opportunity of winning the fourth edition of the reality show – ‘Pepper Dem’ edition in 2019.
Mercy got N60m prize including N30m cash prize for winning the Pepper Dem edition in 2019, making her the first female to ever win the reality show.
Ike, who did not make it to the final, however, claimed his relationship with Mercy denied him several business opportunities after the show.
Mercy and Ike met and started their romance in Biggie’s house during the ‘Pepper Dem’ edition in 2019.
Their romance or ‘ship’ as BBNaija fans like to call it, was so strong that it landed them their eponymous reality show – ‘Mercy and Ike’ on DStv and won them the NET Honours ‘Most Popular Couple’ for the class of 2020.
The relationship, however, hit the rock a few years later. The duo is back in Biggie’s house for the ongoing All Stars season.
During a conversation with Doyin on the BBNaija All Stars season on Friday, August 18, 2023, Ike revealed that he is not interested in getting into a relationship with any housemate based on his past experience with Mercy.
“That girl took money from me, that’s how I feel,” Ike said. “Many deals outside and the N30m she won during our season was supposed to be my own.”
“When people ask me if I like the person that got the money that was supposed to be mine, that thing irritates me,” he added.
When Doyin asked how he knew he could have emerged winner, Ike said “there are some things outside the house that I don’t need to talk about, more money left my hand because of her.”
Ike also added that he’s been avoiding physical contact with Mercy.
