A teen who was stabbed during a home invasion at the Gold Coast says he and his father are shaken but closer than ever.

The 15-year-old boy was hospitalised with a stab wound to the torso after a man allegedly broke into the Gold Coast unit in Varsity Lakes about 1am on Tuesday armed with a golf club and knife.

The boy vividly remembers being face-to-face with the intruder.

“I thought I was dreaming so I was like, ‘Hello hello, who are you?'” the boy told 9News.

“He held a golf club above his head and just ran at me and started whacking me and I was just like ‘Dad, Dad, Dad.'”

The scuffle woke the whole home and the alleged offender smashed glass and tried to stab the boy in his own bedroom.

“I didn’t feel any stabs or cuts or bruises or anything,” the boy said.

“My main focus was survival and fighting him.”

His father was quick to rush to the boy’s side and the pair fought off the intruder and managed to hold him down before help arrived.

He said he was incredibly proud of his son for enduring the incident.

“He really stepped up, there was fight or flight instinct – you can run or you can fight and he fought,” the boy’s father said.

“It made us a lot closer too, you know, the fact him and I can fight this bloke off.”

The man accused of the attack, Troy Andrew Burns, remains in custody after being charged with wounding, entering a dwelling and possession of implements that had been used in relation to particular offences.

The 52-year-old’s case was adjourned again today.
