Industry experts across Nigeria came together to celebrate the nominees of the 16th edition of Africa’s Biggest award show, The Headies, at a special nominees’ party at Eko Hotel on Saturday, August 26, 2023.
The party, which was hosted to celebrate the African Renaissance while highlighting the nominees of each of the categories set for the award show on Sunday, September 3, 2023, in Atlanta, Georgia, had multiple dignitaries in attendance. From acts like Zaaki Azzay to personalities like Yaw.
Speaking on the importance of this year’s Headies, Yaw, the nominee’s party host, mentioned that it was essential during the course of celebrating the African Renaissance that people knew the artistes who paved the way and shaped the genre for the new acts who are dominating the global space.
“We must understand the origin of the genre,” he said. Yinka Adebayo, Executive Director Media Reach, also agrees with this view as he said in an exclusive interview with Netng that this year’s Headies gives Africans the opportunity to showcase their culture to the world.
“Nigeria is leading the way, but we need to carry other African countries along, and this gives us the opportunity to showcase that beyond music, there is more to Africa,” he told Netng.
As the Headies storms Atlanta, Georgia, in September with performances from key Nigerian acts like Asake, Seyi Vibez, Rema, Ayra Starr, Wande Coal, and many more, the major goal of the night is to celebrate the African Renaissance through our style and music.
