Independent senator Lidia Thorpe has been injured in a minor car crash in Melbourne, preventing her from making her way to Canberra for the current parliamentary sitting week.
Thorpe sustained whiplash and bruising during the collision last week, her media team confirmed to 9news.com.au.
She was sitting stationary in her car when it is believed the senator was rear-ended.
As a result of the minor injuries, Thorpe was advised against travelling to Canberra for the first week of parliament after the winter break.
The former Greens senator is expected to return to parliament next week.
