Investigation launched after 21-year-old dies in police custody

An investigation is underway after a 21-year-old man died in police custody south of Brisbane.

Riley O’Brien Faulkner was arrested on a return to prison warrant in Logan about 5pm yesterday and taken to the Beenleigh Watchhouse.

He then suffered a medical episode in the police station about 7pm, according to police, and was taken to Logan Hospital.

He was declared dead at 7.40pm.

Faulkner had previously served two and a half years in prison after being convicted for running over Queensland Police officer Peter MacAuley in 2018.

Faulkner’s death is being investigated by Queensland Police’s Ethical Standards Command on behalf of the State Coroner, with the case subject to oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
