The Edmonton police homicide unit has taken over the investigation after a man reported missing Aug. 2 was found dead.

Karar Jawad was last seen driving a gold Toyota Camry sedan July 30. The 35-year-old was reported missing Aug. 2.

On Friday the Edmonton Police Service said they’ve located his remains, but are not releasing the location due to investigative reasons.

An autopsy Friday determined the manner of death to be homicide, but the cause of death has not been released. Police did release a brief video of the Camry driving down what appears to be an alley in the area of 139 Avenue and 89 Street between 1:30 and 2 p.m. July 30.

The Camry’s Alberta license plate was CNR-4514 according to an earlier news release, which described Jawad’s disappearance as out of character.

“Detectives are looking to speak with anyone with CCTV footage of the Camry or anyone with knowledge of the vehicle’s previous whereabouts,” an EPS news release read. “Anyone with information should contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.”

The announcement came just hours after the EPS released details of another suspicious death, reporting that a deceased female was found in a residence near 123 Street and 128 Avenue by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services Thursday afternoon.  Homicide detectives have also taken over that investigation, but a manner of death has not been determined.

An autopsy in that case is scheduled for Aug. 14.
