Bengaluru, August 26: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday heaped praise on the Indian Space Research Organization’s scientists for the successful Chandrayaan-3 Moon mission and said people from across the globe who believe in science and the future are filled with enthusiasm over India’s achievement.

He also hailed ISRO scientists for taking ‘Make in India’ to the Moon.

Modi made use of the occasion to make three important announcements:

(1) the spot where the Chandrayaan 3’s  lander Vikram touched down would be named “Shiv Shakti Point” to recognize women’s power, in a tribute to the female scientists in ISRO;

(2) the spot where the lander from Chandrayaan 2 touched the moon though not softly as “Tiranga Point” (the tricolour in the Indian national flag);

(3) and the third announcement was that August 23, on which Vikram made a soft landing, would be celebrated as National Space Day every year.

Modi, who flew down to Bengaluru directly from Greece, said he could not stop himself from reaching the city to pay tribute to the ISRO scientists.

A visibly emotional Modi addressed scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation’s command centre in Bengaluru, who were involved in the Chandrayaan-3 mission and lauded them for their efforts.

“Such kind of happiness… these are very rare occasions when the whole body and soul is drenched in happiness,” Modi said while addressing the scientists at ISRO’s Telemetry Tracking and Command Network Mission Control Complex.

“You took the Make In India initiative to the Moon,” Modi said, referring to the boost to indigenous productions due to Chandrayaan 3’s success.
