The mother of the Spanish Football Federation President, Luis Rubiales, has gone on a hunger strike in reaction to public resistance against her son who kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips.
Angeles Bejar, his mother, locked herself in a church of the Divina Pastora in Motril telling Spanish news agency, EFE, the strike will continue “indefinitely, day and night” till the outrage towards her son is resolved.
She said to EFE that the “inhuman and bloody hunt that they are doing with my son is something he does not deserve”.
Bejar went on to say that no sexual abuse occurred “because there was consent on both sides, as seen in the images.”
“Why are they being so cruel to him?” she said, claiming that her son was incapable of causing harm to anyone.
Fifa, the world governing body for soccer, suspended Rubiales from all soccer-related activities for 90 days, but he had rejected the suspension on Friday.
