Oloture, the 2019 Nollywood crime drama adapted from an investigative report into the world of human trafficking, is returning to Netflix as a series.
Sharon Ooja, the lead actress in the 2019 crime drama, announced on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, via her Instagram page.
The series will tell the story of the main character, Oloture’s journey after crossing the Benin border to be trafficked abroad to become a prostitute as an undercover journalist.
Oloture, the movie released in 2019, gave us a view into the life of Oloture, an undercover journalist who joined a ring of human traffickers and was shipped to Italy as a sex worker.
The main cast includes Sharon Ooja, Omoni Oboli, Beverly Osu, Ikechukwu Onunaku, Stan Nze, Amarachukwu Onoh, Bukola Oladipupo, Daniel Etim Effiong and Patrick Doyle.
The news elicited mixed reactions from fans. While everyone is curious to know what happened to Oloture after the heartbreaking cliffhanger that ended the movie, some don’t see the point of making it a series.

Within a few days after its release in 2019, Oloture was ranked among the Top 10 watched movies worldwide on Netflix. The movie created awareness and sparked up conversations about human trafficking.
However, there were controversies surrounding the movie as the journalist whose investigative report the movie was based on, Tobore Ovuorie, made copyright infringement allegations against EbonylifeTV for using her explicit story without her permission, but the matter was eventually resolved.
