The Tribunal sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has cancelled the election that pronounced Thaddeus Attah of the Labour Party as Representative of the Eti Osa Federal Constituency of Lagos State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was mandated by the court to hold a second election in 32 Eti-Osa voting units within 90 days.
In a public statement, Ibrahim Obanikoro, a candidate for the All-Progressive Congress, confirmed this and said, “The Feb 25 election has just been rightly declared inconclusive and Supplementary elections has been ordered by the court. INEC has been ordered to withdraw the return certificate issued and conduct elections in areas where election didn’t hold on Election Day.” He further announced a campaign relaunch on the X social media platform, formerly known as Twitter.
Actor and singer Bankole “Banky W” Wellington, who ran for the position as well under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), also took to the X platform and posted, “It is possible, still.”
Attah of the Labour Party was declared the victor for the Eti-Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives by INEC in February 2023.
This unexpected triumph caused dissension on social media, with many people saying that he gained the seat under the LP’s influence, and then, Attah was legally challenged by the opposing parties.
