In a night filled with celebration, music sensation Rema emerged as the winner of the prestigious Best Male Artiste award at the 16th edition of The Headies. The 23-year-old gave a rather inspiring speech about the Nigerian music industry when he received his award on Sunday, September 4, 2023.

“I am not here because of the award, I am here because it is important to support our institutions,” he said.

However, on March 21, 2023, Rema broke this record as his single ‘Calm Down’ featuring Selena Gomez entered the Top 10 Hot 100 chart and stayed there for weeks. Currently, the song has peaked at No. 5, the first for a Nigerian song.
Additionally, Rema achieved another remarkable feat as he became the first Nigerian Pop Artiste to reach No. 1 on US Pop Radio with his hit single ‘Calm Down’ featuring American singer Selena Gomez. This accomplishment is even more impressive considering the stiff competition it takes to enter the US radio waves.
