A couple have had their suburban home sprayed with bullets in Melbourne’s north-west overnight, the second drive-by shooting in 24 hours.
A man and woman in their 50s were inside the property at Excelsior Heights in Craigieburn about 12.10am when the shots hit the home.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton said it appeared the drive-by shooting was “targeted”, but said the couple were not the intended victims.
“The two people who were there, I understood, are completely innocent persons, who are very scared as a result of the shooting,” Patton said.
“We are exploring whether it’s related to persons who may have previously been staying there.
“It’s very early days in the Craigieburn shooting that’s occurred early this morning.”
The home was left with multiple bullet holes and police found shell cases around the surrounding area.
A woman nearby said she heard at least seven gunshots.
“It was very scary,” she said.
“It is like our Craigieburn, the best street and we feel very safe and we didn’t expect anything like this before.
“I was sleeping and I heard the ‘bang bang’ sound, it was so loud.”
No injuries have been reported.
The incident marks the third shooting to occur in Melbourne this week.
A 17-year-old boy was rushed to hospital after he was injured in a drive-by shooting in Endeavour Hills yesterday.
Meanwhile, a family was forced to take shelter in a bedroom after a group opened fire on two units in Dandenong on Sunday night.
Police continue to investigate and no arrests have been made.
There are not believed to be any links between the three shootings.
