A schoolboy who was flung metres down a busy Perth road in an alleged hit and run is recovering in hospital with his distraught father by his side.
Robert Corps, 14, was crossing the road on the way to the train station in Beckenham, in the city's east, when he was hit by a car just before 4pm (6pm AEST) on Wednesday.
Nearby security cameras captured the moment the aspiring basketballer was hit on William Street, near the Railway Parade intersection.
"He got propelled in the air and then just pretty much rolled along the ground and come to being on his belly against the kerb," father Troy Corps said.
Bystanders at the nearby petrol station rushed to help before Robert was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital in a serious condition.
"You'd like to say you'd do the same thing but a lot of people wouldn't. They're just special people," Troy said.
Robert remains in hospital with a broken leg and a laceration on his kidney. He was attentive but still and silent as his father spoke to 9News on Wednesday.
"You try and be strong. But yeah, it's just, it's heartbreaking seeing your kid in the hospital bed with, all banged up," Troy said.
A 19-year-old driver was charged and her silver Hyundai i30 hatchback seized from a home in Welshpool after she handed herself in to police on Thursday.
She'll face Armadale Magistrates Court on October 13 on one count of failing to stop and ensure assistance received after an incident occasioning grievous bodily harm.
The local traffic warden, whose shift finished just 10 minutes before the crash, said the stretch of road could be "very dangerous".
"We've got a stop sign just behind you there and people just come straight through on. They don't stop at all," William Vegvari said, speaking generally about drivers, not this incident in particular.
Troy just wants people to take extra care on the roads.
"School holidays are coming up and yesterday was a pretty wild day with the weather, so just, even turn your headlights on, slow down, have another look," he said.
