Police said the 29-year-old was rushed from Blackett to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition with gunshot wounds to his body and head.
Officers were called to Niland Crescent when the shooting was reported about 9pm on Wednesday.
They established a crime scene and launched an investigation.
It's the second night in a row a man in his 20s has been shot in Sydney.
Police suspect a shooting on Tuesday night in Campsie, in the city's south-west, is gang-related but have not made any gang claims about the Blackett incident.
