Police are searching for three men after a shooting in Sydney's west.
A man in his 20s was found with serious injuries in Carlisle Avenue at Bidwill this afternoon before he was taken to Westmead Hospital for emergency surgery.
Witnesses said the trio opened fire, gunning down the young man.
"I was hanging my daughter's bed sheets out and all of a sudden just heard three shots and ran inside," one resident said.
An intact bullet was found on a pathway behind Bidwill Square, metres away from where children were playing.
Further down the pathway blood was found, which police said was from a man who was shot.
"They were extremely loud," another resident said.
"It sounded like if you were on a construction site and something fell from a fifth floor building."
It is understood the man ran to a friend's house about 100 metres away while he was hurt and bleeding.
Paramedics were called to help the young man as police searched the area for evidence.
