Police investigate if human remains are those of SA murder victim

Police are investigating whether human remains found in South Australia's mid north could be those of a long-term missing person.

SA Police have been searching for the remains of Robert Atkins who was allegedly kidnapped by a gang of criminals and held under "physical and coercive control" in November 2020.

Today, police confirmed they found human remains on a property on Peak Road in Minvalara, near Orroroo.

Detectives are investigating if they are the remains of Atkins.

"Detectives from Major Crime Investigation Branch are currently at the scene along with Forensic Response members, a Forensic Anthropologist and SES," SA Police said in a statement.

Previously police alleged he was held across three different locations between November 8 and 16 and subjected to a number of assaults.

Officers are searching for the remains of Robert Atkins in South Australia's mid north.

Atkins was last known to be alive on November 16 but police believed he was murdered and buried on that day between Peterborough and Orroroo.

Previously one man was charged with Atkins' murder and three other men and a woman were charged over their alleged roles in his kidnapping and assault.
