The United States Chamber of Commerce has asked President Bola Tinubu to ring the closing bell of the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations (NASDAQ) on September 20.
NASDAQ, a stock exchange market, is the busiest in the US by volume and is the second-largest market by market capitalization after the NYSE.
The ringing of the bell signifies the end of a trading session for the day.
The bell-ringing event with Tinubu will take place in conjunction with the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), according to a statement released by the US Chamber of Commerce on Monday.
The organisation said the ceremony, which will take place at NASDAQ headquarters in New York, “symbolises the significance of the economic ties between the United States and Nigeria”.
The statement read, “We hope this celebration and the discussion as part of the U.S.-Nigeria Executive Business Dialogue serve to further strengthen economic ties and enhance collaboration between the U.S. and Nigerian business communities.”
The US Chamber of Commerce, which represents businesses of all sizes in every sphere of the economy, is the biggest business organization in the world.
Members vary from top industry groups and huge enterprises to small businesses and regional chambers of commerce.
