Two months after unveiling the schedule for renowned music festival Afro Nation, the organisers have cancelled the event due to their inability to make arrangements in time for the festival scheduled for December 19, 2023.

Afro Nation revealed this in a statement they released on their social media on Tuesday, October 13, 2023.

“Unfortunately, the Afro Nation Nigeria festival in Lagos will now not be taking place. As event organisers, we hold ourselves to extremely high standards, and it has become clear to us that it is currently not possible to deliver a show that is of the quality that Nigeria deserves in December 2023,” they said.

The festival, co-founded by Adesegun Adeosun Jnr, known as SMADE and Obi Asika, has hosted shows in Portugal, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Miami and Detroit. Since their first show in 2019, they’ve been committed to uniting the diaspora with African music with a lineup of African artistes featured to give electrifying performances.

Although the festival has been cancelled, the organisers disclosed that they are still committed to creating an Afro Nation show in Lagos. “We know that you are as disappointed as we are, and to all those who have purchased tickets, we love you and thank you for supporting us on this journey,” they added.

Afro Nation was scheduled to hold at the 55,000-capacity Tafawa Balewa Square(TBS).
