Nigerian midfielder, Esther Onyenezide has taken to X to celebrate her invite to the Super Falcons of Nigeria squad for the first time in her football career.

Esther Onyenezide is expected to feature in the Super Falcons’ clash with Ethiopia in Addis Ababa in the first leg of the second round of the 2024 women’s Olympics qualifiers. The game is scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m. later this afternoon.

Falcons head coach Randy Waldrum unexpectedly called up the 20-year-old Onyenezide for the qualifiers following Halimatu Ayinde’s injury.

Onyenezide left a lasting impression at last year’s Under-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica. She contributed to Falconets’ three goals, which advanced Nigeria to the quarterfinals stage of the World Cup.

The Rivers Angels player expressed her excitement for her upcoming debut and was thrilled to have been called up.

“Excited to announce that I’ve been invited to join Nigeria’s senior women’s national team. It’s an honour to represent my country and wear green and white. “Can’t wait to give it my all and make Nigeria proud against Ethiopia,” Esther Onyenezide wrote on her X account on Monday.

The first leg of the doubleheader match is set for today, Wednesday, at Addis Ababa’s Abebe Bekila Stadium, while the second leg is set for Tuesday, October 31, at Abuja’s Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

If the Super Falcons win on aggregate after the two-legged affairs, they will face the winner of the match between Uganda and Cameroon.
