Five months after Oyinlola Odemewu got Guinness World Record’s approval to contest for the longest painting marathon record, the 2D artist has commenced her Paint-A-Thon session with over 50 hours of painting hours completed.

The record was previously held by Roland Palmaerts, who painted for 60 hours straight with 60 metres of painting with watercolour to celebrate his 60th birthday from October 3 – 5, 2023. All the paintings from the record-holding moment were displayed at an art gallery in France.

Lola has always loved painting. Even after she got a law degree in 2015, she found avenues to explore her love for art as she channelled it into make-up and face painting before she moved into digital art in 2022.

“Before this milestone, I had been diligently honing my skills, experimenting with various styles and techniques, and preparing to endure extended hours of continuous painting,” Lola said in a statement.

Since she embarked on her record-winning moment, she has auctioned over ten pieces, with each painting being sold for a minimum of ₦40,000. So far, her paintings have centred around childhood memories as she reenacts these memories of children playing, family interactions, and general human interactions in rural environments.

Personalities like Pastor Iren and Victoria Orenze have shown support to the artist. Lola is on track to break Roland Palmaert’s record by 10 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2023.
