The House of Representatives on Tuesday expressed concerns about alleged corruption claims in the Federal Government’s conditional cash transfer programme to 15 million households.
Naija News understands that it was due to this reason the House summoned the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, to give the green chamber an update on the programme.
The lawmakers on Tuesday, in a motion of urgent public importance, expressed concern over the handling of the cash transfer programme.
The House, which alleged a lack of transparency in the programme, questioned how monies are transferred.
The lawmakers said they have reports on how fraudulent practices have taken over the sending of cash transfers, resulting in corruption within the programme.
Speaking on the programme earlier, the humanitarian affairs minister had said that the 15 million households represent 62 million Nigerians.
Edu had said that N25,000 would be transferred to the beneficiaries every month for three months, which amounts to N75,000 for each beneficiary.
It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu launched the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer for 15 million households to cushion the effects of the removal of fuel subsidy in May.
