Jose Mourinho may lose his managerial position at Roma if the club fail to secure a victory in their upcoming Serie A match against Cagliari on Sunday, reports revealed.
Having been in charge for three seasons, Mourinho, who previously managed Manchester United and Chelsea, has achieved consecutive sixth-place finishes in the league, as well as reaching the final of the Europa League and winning the inaugural Europa Conference League.
However, Roma’s performance this season has not been encouraging, with only two wins in their first seven fixtures, resulting in their current position in 13th place.
According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Roma’s owner, Dan Friedkin, is prepared to dismiss Mourinho if they suffer a defeat against Cagliari, who currently occupy the bottom spot in the league.
It is alleged that Friedkin had contemplated terminating Mourinho’s contract following their 4-1 loss to Genoa last week, but was convinced by sporting director Tiago Pinto to grant the manager more time.
Since then, Roma have managed to secure a 2-0 victory against Frosinone in the league and a 4-0 win against Servette in the Europa League.
However, Friedkin is still said to be deliberating Mourinho’s future at the club.
