Nigerian singer Skales took to his social media handles to reveal evidence of officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) raiding his home in the middle of the night on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

He disclosed that three armed officers had broken into his home, claiming that they got intel that he was into fraud. However, he revealed that no evidence was found to indict him.

“They said they got an intel that I’m into fraud. They said it’s a routine check, that’s all and they found nothing… they broke my back door while I was sleeping on the bed with my six-month-old daughter, imagine the panic attack,” he tweeted.

EFCC has since responded as the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale, stated that the claims were untrue as the agency does not conduct raids nor do they invade houses. Also, he demanded that the singer provide evidence of this raid.

In a series of videos posted by the music star, men wearing the EFCC jacket were spotted raiding the singer’s house. The big question is, are the officers operating within the tenets of the law?

According to section 12(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) of 2015, law enforcement officers have the right to enter any house forcefully as long as the suspect is confirmed to be there.

“Where access to a house or place cannot be obtained under subsection (1) of this section, the person or police officer may enter the house or place and search it for the suspect to be arrested, and to effect an entrance into the house or place, may break open any outer or inner door or window of any house or place, whether that of the suspect to be arrested or of any other person or otherwise effect entry into such house or place, if after notification of his authority and purpose, and demand of admittance duly made, he cannot obtain admittance,” EFCC’s 2022 report reveals.

This is not the first time a case like this has happened. In August 2021, ex-BBNaija housemate Dorathy Bachor suffered the same fate. In her case, the agency had admitted to raiding her apartment as they revealed that other fraudsters were arrested in her building.
