‘The world will miss you’: Matthew Perry’s Friends co-star’s touching tribute

Friends star Matthew Perry has been described as a "true gift to all" following his shock death.

Tributes are flowing for the Emmy-nominated actor who was reportedly found dead after an apparent drowning in a hot tub, according to US media reports.

Maggie Wheeler, who played Perry's on-screen girlfriend, Janice on Friends, was one of the first cast members to publicly pay tribute to him.

Wheeler took to Instagram, writing, "the world will miss you Matthew Perry".

"What a loss," she wrote.

"The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on.

"I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared."

Meanwhile, the official X account for Friends wrote a heartfelt message for the beloved cast member.

"We are devastated to learn of Matthew Perry's passing. He was a true gift to us all. Our heart goes out to his family, loved ones, and all of his fans," the post said.

Michael Rapaport, who played Gary in four episodes of the show, wrote on X that Perry was "always nice, cool and talented".

"You are a part of American Culture and will live on forever," he said.

Actress Olivia Munn shared her condolences for the actor via an Instagram Story post.

"He struggled with so much addiction and was brave enough to be open and honest about it. I'm so sorry to his family and friends who are getting this news today," she said.

"Nothing short of heartbreaking. Rest in love, Matthew Perry."

Cruel Intentions actress Selma Blair also took to Instagram to share a heartfelt selfie with the late-actor.

"My oldest boy friend," she said.

"All of us loved Matthew Perry and I did especially. Every day. I love him unconditionally. And he me. I'm broken hearted. 

"Sweet dreams Matty. Sweet dreams."

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who went to school with Perry, said the news was "shocking and saddening".

"I'll never forget the schoolyard games we used to play, and I know people around the world are never going to forget the joy he brought them."

Paget Brewster, who played a recurring character Kathy on Friends, said Perry was "lovely" to her.

"Please read his book. It was his legacy to help. He won't rest in peace though…He's already too busy making everyone laugh up there," she wrote on X.

Bruce Willis' daughter, Rumer Willis, wrote on Instagram she was "so sad", having met Perry while on film and TV set with her father.

"I know he had many challenges in his life and brought a lot of joy to people with his comedy," she said.

Morgan Fairchild, who played Perry's mother on Friends, said she was "heartbroken".

Laura Benanti, who appeared with him in the comedy Go On, said: "Matty was generous, brilliant and an unparalleled talent."

Actress Shannon Docherty posted a long tribute, saying "shock and sadness prevail".

His favourite sports team, the LA Kings, reportedly played the Friends theme tune during their Saturday night game in tribute.

The American-Canadian actor is best known for playing fan-favourite Chandler Bing for 10 seasons of the sitcom Friends, alongside Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Lisa Kudrow.

An unnamed representative for Perry confirmed the actor's death to NBC, the network that carried Friends for the entirety of its 10-season run.

There was no sign of foul play, reports say.
