How we met
By the bride, Ginika:
In late 2020, I received a call from my family friend, now sister-in-law. She was like ‘I am going to introduce you to someone I think you might like’ and that was how I was introduced to Chikezie. He was rounding up his PhD in the US while I was working in Lagos. At first, I wasn’t interested in a relationship because I was so focused on transitioning fully into my tech career. We stayed friends, I was a bit hesitant because of the distance but he stuck around. Time went by and we unconsciously built a friendship. After a while, we became inseparable and he asked me to be his girlfriend. It became official when he visited me in Nigeria, and this bloomed into a beautiful relationship.
We found out we had a lot in common and the conversation just flowed effortlessly. We would talk all day and all night about everything and anything. I couldn’t start or end the day without him. Our love story blossomed with laughter, kindness, support and shared adventures. Kezie is super sweet, very calm, caring, thoughtful, kind and of course handsome. He totally complements my personality. Saying yes to marrying him has been my best decision yet.

On Wednesday, the <a href="https://www.mtlblog.com/tag/westjet" target="_blank">WestJet</a> Group officially folded the low-cost carrier into its operations, meaning all future Sunwing flights will now be operated by WestJet planes and crews. The move marks the end of an era for Canadian leisure travel, especially for Quebec travellers used to flying out of <a href="https://www.mtlblog.com/tag/montreal-airport" target="_blank">Montréal-Trudeau</a> to Cuba, Mexico, or the Dominican Republic.</p><p>Founded in the early 2000s, Sunwing grew from a single Boeing 737 flying between Toronto and Cuba into one of the country's top vacation airlines, operating out of major hubs in Montreal and Toronto. It served over 50 sun destinations at its peak and became known for bundling affordable flights with all-inclusive resort stays through its tour operator, Sunwing Vacations.</p><p>The now-defunct airline has been winding down operations in various Canadian hubs over the past few weeks. The final Sunwing-operated flight officially departed on May 28. </p><blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/DJ_6hlftejl/?img_index=1" data-instgrm-version="4" style="background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

According to <a href="https://www.newswire.ca/news-releases/westjet-group-completes-integration-of-sunwing-airlines-successfully-unifying-all-narrowbody-operations-under-westjet-airlines-809071053.html" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">WestJet's May 28 press release</a>, the consolidation is part of a broader plan to expand the Calgary-based airline's footprint in the sun and leisure market.</p><p> "I know every Sunwing employee, past and present feels their contributions have mattered to advancing the experience of air travel," said Alexis von Hoensbroech, Chief Executive Officer of the WestJet Group. "To all WestJetters and former Sunwing team members: thank you. This milestone is your achievement, and a proud moment for us all."</p><p>The Sunwing Vacations brand will continue to exist, and travellers can still book package deals through it. But from now on, all flights will be operated by WestJet, which says passengers can expect a more uniform onboard experience across its 150-plane fleet, including more fare options and standard cabin configurations.</p><p>For Quebecers heading south, the destinations may not change, but the airline behind the seatback will.</p>
