"Both of our families are still in shock and devastated over yesterday's tragic crash," the families said in a joint statement released by NSW Police.

"We are continuing to come to terms with the loss of our much-loved son and brother.

"We ask for privacy at this time, and we will not be conducting any media interviews while the police investigation continues."

The driver and passenger, Nicholas Thew and Anthony Morris, allegedly left the scene after the crash.

Both were taken to Liverpool Hospital under police guard for assessment for injuries allegedly sustained during the crash.

Police are continuing to investigate the crash.

The owner of the home that was struck by the car recounted the horror of seeing the wreckage in her yard.

"I came outside and oh my God, I saw two boys inside my yard. It's so bad," the owner said.

The horror crash has left many in the south-west Sydney community in shock and disbelief.

"I cannot imagine this happening to my children. I think that's the most terrible thing that can happen to your children as a mother," one local said.

"It's never easy when you find out something like this for any child to lose their life so young," another local said.

"It's so tragic, I feel so sorry for their family and friends."
