Fresh charges have been laid after a dramatic 13-hour crime spree across the NSW Mid North Coast.

Corey Glass, 26, and Tyrone Russell, 32, were arrested near a riverbank in Kempsey on Thursday.

During the arrest, police said they found a duffel bag filled with dog food, counterfeit watches and drug paraphernalia stashed in the scrub.

It came after a 13-hour alleged spree spanning nearly 100km on the Mid North Coast, which 9News understands began after three men, Glass, Russell and their friend Sam Liszczak, 30, drove from Victoria in a black Mercedes ute.

Glass told police they'd used cocaine before it's alleged he shot at multiple cars on the M1.

The first shot was near Coopernook, the bullet grazing young father Bailey Duncombe's arm.

A second shot was fired at another driver at the Hatch before the group headed back towards Port Macquarie, where it's alleged that Glass fired at a police car on Fernbank Creek Road.

Police said they will allege in court the men had travelled together from Victoria in the ute, before the older man fatally shot Liszczak after a falling out.

Liszczak's body was found on the side of the road.

The 30-year-old from Melbourne spent six years behind bars convicted of shooting a police officer in the face as well as firebombing and shooting at the homes of slain underworld figure Carl Williams' family members.

Glass has been charged with three counts of discharge firearm intended to cause grievous bodily harm and other firearm offences.
