It’s that time of the year again when the Grammys unveil its nominees lists. This year, the Grammys will be acknowledging African music on a different scale as they’ve introduced the Best African Music Performance category to the pre-existing 91 categories.
The 66th Grammy Awards nominee list will be unveiled on a video live stream on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel on Friday, November 10, 2023, by 5 pm, with an array of talents to host the nominee’s night, including stars like Jon Bon Jovi, Kim Petras, Muni Long, and more.
According to the Grammys criteria, only recordings between October 1, 2022, to September 15, 2023, are eligible, so Rema’s Calm Down featuring Selena Gomez will not be making the list as it was released on August 25, 2023. However, Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them’ and Davido’s ‘Timeless’ are within the eligibility period.
Apart from the category of Best African Music, the award show has added other categories like Best Pop Dance Recording, Best African Music Performance and Best Alternative Jazz Album. Additionally, two pre-existing categories – Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year – have been moved to the general field.
