Queen Elizabeth II was forced to call off virtual engagements Tuesday after “experiencing mild cold-like symptoms” related to COVID-19, Buckingham Palace said.
The 95-year-old British monarch, who contracted the disease last week, will continue with “light duties” this week while decisions about future engagements will be made closer to their dates, a Palace spokesperson said Tuesday.
A number of people around the queen at Windsor Castle have also reportedly tested positive for the virus. The queen’s oldest son and heir Prince Charles tested positive — for the second time — on February 10. The queen, who celebrated 70 years on the throne earlier this month, has reportedly had three vaccinations.
Queen Elizabeth had no public engagements planned this week apart from video meetings, and her weekly audience with U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson was scheduled as a remote call tomorrow.
