A police officer has been shot dead overnight and a second was injured after an incident in regional South Australia.
The officers were attending a property in the town of Senior, close to the Victorian border, just before midnight when they confronted an armed suspect and shots were fired.
One of the officers sustained fatal gunshot wounds and despite the efforts of his colleagues and paramedics, he died at the scene.

A second police officer received non-life threatening gunshot wounds and has been taken to Adelaide for treatment.
A third officer at the scene was not physically injured and gave assistance.
The alleged suspect was also shot by police and sustained serious life-threatening injuries.
He was treated at the scene and has since been flown to Adelaide where he remains under police guard.
Police have launched an investigation into the shooting.
