The daughter was stable at Royal Perth Hospital with stab wounds.
Neighbour John said he was alerted by another member of the family after the alleged attack.
Detective Senior Sergeant Keith Neubronner said detectives were trying to work out what happened.
"Both women we believe were assaulted with an edged weapon of some sort, we don't know what kind of weapon it was," Neubronner claimed.
"We have no idea what's actually occurred in the house, we know an altercation has occurred but the actual intricacies of it all we have no idea at this point in time."
