Adding to her ever-growing list of prestigious awards, renowned Nigerian actress Funke Akindele has won NET Honours 2023 Most Popular Actress, beating Nollywood superstar Nancy Isime, Scarlet Gomez, Toyin Abraham, Bimbo Ademoye, and Nse Ikpe-Etim to clinch the award for the fourth consecutive year. The ‘Jenifa’s Diary’ star also won NET Honours 2023 Most Search Actress of the Year.

Funke Akindele commenced her acting journey in 1998, starring in the sitcom “I Need To Know.” However, her breakthrough came a decade later with her role in the 2008 comedy-drama “Jenifa.” In 2015, she launched the sitcom comedy-drama “Jenifa’s Diary,” a spinoff of the movie “Jenifa,” where she portrayed the lead character—a village girl striving to escape her ratchet lifestyle by seeking education in the city of Lagos.

After briefly venturing into politics as the running mate to Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran for Lagos State Governor in the March 2023 governorship election, Funke returned to the screen with two critically acclaimed movies—‘She Must be Obeyed’ and ‘A Tribe Called Judah,’ which premiered on December 10, 2023, at the Filmhouse Cinema IMAX, Lekki, Lagos. ‘She Must be Obeyed,’ a mini–series, debuted on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, September 29, 2023, showcasing Funke’s versatility as a director, producer, and actress.
