A mother-of-four who police say was killed by her partner north of Brisbane had only recently moved there from Sydney.
The man then set fire to their house in Kallangur and later died of his injuries, police said.
Siva Auvae would have celebrated her 32nd birthday on Christmas Day.
Police said she was stabbed repeatedly at the hands of her long-term partner, Anaru Ormond, who left her to die in the middle of the road.
Traumatised neighbours found her and called triple zero about 7pm yesterday.
Emergency services tried to do CPR but she couldn’t be saved.
Police said the man set fire to their Kallangur house 100 metres away and fled only to be found badly burnt in the front yard of a home.
“The whole thing just went up, all the glass shattered, engulfed the house basically,” witness Jordan Clemson said.
The 32-year-old sole suspect was taken to hospital where he died this morning.
A team of 40 detectives and forensic officers combed over the crime scene.
“It’s sickening, it’s so hard when it’s so close to home,” witness Toni Labudda said.
Siva’s heartbroken friends and family in New Zealand paid tribute to the “most beautiful cousin” and “the most loving, kind person” saying “it hurts my heart to hear you’re gone”.
Investigators said the couple only moved to Brisbane from NSW in the past week.
Detectives are working with police interstate to piece together the moments leading up to the tragedy.
Queensland Police Service Detective Inspector David Harbison said there were no current domestic violence orders in either state related to the couple.
A fundraiser has been set up to help her four children and return her body home.
Support is available from theNational Sexual Assault, Domestic Family Violence Counselling Servicat 1800RESPECT (1800 737 732).
A Michigan mom, Heather Bell, and her husband have eight grown children, and the mom still cooks for the kids. Her new cookbook has just been published, called "Mama Bell's Big Family Cooking."
