Christmas has come early this year for drivers, with petrol prices falling across the country, despite holiday periods normally leading to a spike in prices.
Petrol prices in most Australian cities and regional areas are expected to continue to drop over the next few weeks at an average of two cents per day, in line with the drop in oil prices, NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury told Weekend Today.
"These prices will keep falling over the next couple of weeks," he said.

Petrol prices in Sydney are expected to fall as much as 35 cents per litre in the coming weeks.
The average price in Sydney currently sits at $2.06 per litre, while it is at $1.90 per litre in Canberra and $1.98 per litre in Adelaide.
In Darwin and Hobart, petrol prices are falling slowly, with both cities averaging at $1.86 per litre.
Brisbane prices currently sit at $1.76 per litre, while Perth is the cheapest city at $1.64 per litre.
In Melbourne, petrol is around $1.95 per litre.
Khoury explained the dip in petrol prices was due to oil prices falling.
"Oil prices started falling early this year, and that should continue," he said.
"Americans are producing more oil today than they ever have in history and that has led to the falls we are now seeing."

Khoury said the drop in prices was unique, as Australians usually saw an increase over the summer.
"Normally around holiday time we see a spike in prices, " he said.
"Obviously the best time to fill up is before you run out of fuel, but if you're on a road trip, wait until you get out of town because you will see better prices."
