A Qantas flight from Bali to Melbourne has been terrorised by an out-of-control passenger.

Crew were forced to tie and pin the man down during a four-hour mid-air ordeal after QF 46 left Denpasar at 10pm yesterday.

A series of violent outbursts erupted the moment lights went out an hour into the flight.

Footage shows the blood-curdling screams of an unhinged passenger who was threatening others.

"If you don't get away from me, I will f— you," he says.

The incoherent 28-year-old lunges at a flight attendant.

"No, no listen baby. Give me a kiss," he says.

"I'll call my mum and dad! Where's my mum and dad!? Get the f— away from me," he says, at another moment.

Passenger Norman Pires De Silva said it was a "pretty intense experience".

"It was pretty scary," he said.

"He attacked two-three of the passengers, all the other passengers overpowered him."

It took five passengers to bring the man to the ground, where his hands were tied with his head on a pillow and a passenger's knees in his back.

Crew took turns holding the man in the aisle for four hours.

The flight landed in Melbourne at 6.40am and the man was handed to Australian Federal Police.

The AFP said a 28-year-old male passenger was questioned before being taken for medical assessment.

"The AFP will continue to investigate the incident," it said in a statement.

"No charges have been laid at this stage."

A Qantas spokesperson said the airline worked with police to manage the incident.

"The safety of our customers and our crew is our number one priority and we have zero tolerance for disruptive of threatening behaviour," they said.

"We've been working with the authorities who met the aircraft on arrival into Melbourne."
