Nigerian singer, Oyindamola ‘Ayra Starr’ Aderibigbe sets a new record on YouTube with her 2022 hit single ‘Rush’ to become the first female Nigerian singer with a solo song to exceed 300 million views and the eleventh most-watched Nigerian music video on the video sharing platform.
The song has garnered over 300 million streams on Spotify, making it one of the most streamed African songs on the music platform. Rush also earned Ayra Starr her first Grammy nomination at the 66th Annual Grammy awards in 2024 for Best African Music Performance alongside fellow Nigerian acts Asake, Olamide, Burna Boy and Davido.
Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ was released in September 2022, off her debut studio album ‘19 & Dangerous’. In January 2023, Rush debuted on UK Singles Chart, which made her the first Nigerian female artist to achieve a solo entry into the chart and the song has also charted in many countries including France, Switzerland, Netherlands, France, Canada and many more. In September 2023, the song ‘Rush’ attained Diamond certification in France.
