A teenage girl who was allegedly stabbed in the neck with a boxcutter while walking home in Melbourne’s outer north has told of how she was left to bleed in a park after the attack.
Kiara Williams, 16, was walking home from a memorial service when she was allegedly attacked one Saturday night in October.
Stabbed in the neck and arm by two youths, she was left on the grass at a local Melbourne park to bleed out.
Williams said everything had gone black and her ears began to ring.
“In the back of my mind, I thought, ‘Am I dying right now?’ And that was scary,” she told 9News.
The teen was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where she underwent surgery.
Two months later, her wounds are healing but her mental health has reached a low point.
She said the scar on her arm constantly reminded her of what she’d been through.
“This has completely messed up my mental health,” she said.
“I have to keep an eye out everywhere, wherever I go, wherever I am, I always have to be cautious of my surroundings.”
Since the alleged attack, she has struggled with basic tasks like catching public transport and going for a walk.
She is speaking out in the hope this doesn’t happen to another young person.
“If you are planning on using a weapon, you’re planning to use it to either kill someone or severely hurt someone, genuinely it’s embarrassing,” she said.
“It shows how much of a low life you are and that you’re looking for the attention.”
