Burna Boy and Davido have missed out on the opportunity to make history at the Grammy Awards as Burna Boy lost all four nominations, and Davido lost all three nominations at the 2024 Grammy Awards, which was held in the early hours of Monday, February 5, 2024.
If they had won, Burna Boy would have become the first Nigerian artiste to win a Grammy twice in a major category, and Davido would have earned his first Grammy win.
South Africa’s Tyla took the award for Best African Music Performance, Shakiti won Best Global Music Album, Bela Fleck Banjo, Edgar Meyer & Zakirh Tabla’s ‘Pashto’ got the award for Best Global Music Performance.
Regardless of whether these acts won or not, they both have had a great year in general. Burna Boy has continued to set new records on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In 2023, he also became the first-ever international African artist to earn the No. 1 spot on the official weekly UK album chart.
On the other hand, Davido has continued to reach new milestones as ‘Timeless’ went on to break streaming records in Nigeria, while many songs on the album became viral hit singles.
The Grammys might not have deemed them fit for awards, but they both have continued to pave the way and set the pace for the next generation of Nigerian artistes with their achievements and musical prowess.
