A NSW Police officer has been charged with two counts of murder over the disappearance of a Sydney couple.

Grave concerns had been held for Qantas flight attendant Luke Davies, 29, and his partner and former Ten presenter Jesse Baird, 26, after bloodied possessions of theirs were found in a skip bin at Cronulla earlier this week.

Senior Constable Beau Lamarre, an ex-partner of Baird's who police wished to speak to as part of the investigation, presented himself to Bondi Police Station at about 10.30am today.

Lamarre, 28, has since been charged and briefly faced court over the alleged murders of Davies and Baird.

He did not apply for bail.

Police have found a "projectile" that matches Lamarre's service weapon.

"Charges have been submitted, police will refuse bail," Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty from State Crime Command's Homicide Squad said.

"Police located a projectile at the premises which had been discharged … this has been ballistically matched to a NSW Police firearm."

The firearm, which was located in a gun safe at a police station after being checked in, has been seized and will undergo forensic analysis.

Investigators have also located a white Toyota HiAce van at Grays Point, in Sydney's south, believed to have been rented by Lamarre on Monday.

Police will allege both men were killed at Baird's home in Paddington on Monday, before the van was hired and used to transport and dispose of the bodies, Doherty said.

"We still need to establish what the cause of death is," he said.

"We need to find the location of the bodies.

"It is a sad and tragic event."

Police are still trying to establish the exact timeline of the men's deaths and the officer's movements, but Doherty confirmed Lamarre had travelled to Newcastle last night.

He said there had been a triple zero call made in relation to the alleged crime but could not reveal who made the call or when.

Investigations into the sighting are still ongoing.

"The family are obviously devastated … the news was met with mixed emotion and it's a very tough day for them," Doherty said.

Lamarre is the ex-partner of Baird and was a former celebrity blogger before joining NSW Police in 2020.

In 2020, a video of then-constable Tasering a suspect in the face went viral, just one year after he joined the police force.

He was cleared of any wrongdoing after an internal investigation.

"It has been documented that the 28-year-old man facing these charges was in a relationship with Jesse which finished a couple of months ago, and so that's an obvious line of inquiry in relation to (a) domestic-style incident," Doherty said.

Police said earlier that both Baird and Davies were last seen on Monday but the account of one was active on social media on Tuesday night.

Three cars have been seized as part of the investigation, belonging to both Baird and Davies.

Baird's and Davies' possessions were found with blood on them at about 11am on Wednesday in a skip bin outside Club Cronulla on Wilbar Avenue.

They included clothing, an $8000 watch, a wallet and a credit card.

Investigators then attended Baird's home at Brown Street in Paddington, where officers "immediately" established a crime scene after finding a large amount of blood.

"There has been some sort of incident that has occurred at the Paddington address," Detective Superintendent Jodi Radmore said yesterday.

Radmore said witnesses overheard shouting "coming from that vicinity" on Monday morning but did not report it to police.

Police went to Davies' home in Waterloo but he could not be located.

The bank accounts of both men had not been used since their disappearance and neither had turned up for work.

About 11.30pm yesterday, officers investigating the disappearance carried out a search warrant on a home in Waite Avenue, Balmain.

"Officers seized a number of items," police said, in a statement issued early this morning.

"No further information regarding items taken from the property is available at this time."

Baird was also an AFL goal umpire and did not arrive to officiate in a Swans-Giants trial game on Wednesday.

"Jesse was rostered on but did not turn up and has not been in touch with his colleagues. The AFL has contacted his family and offered support," the AFL said in a statement yesterday.

Qantas also said it was offering support to colleagues and the men's families.

"Our thoughts are with family, friends and colleagues of our crew member at this very difficult time," it said in a statement.
